Martyn Fletcher
Deputy Managing Director , Ansvar
Martyn has enjoyed over 20 years at Ansvar, initially as Head of Finance and since 2019 as Deputy MD.
An honours graduate in business studies and chartered accountant by profession, Martyn’s early corporate finance and accounting experience was in practice at Price Waterhouse and as a manager at Ernst & Young in Manchester.
As an Ansvar policyholder even then he had been attracted by Ansvar’s unique ethical positioning as a specialist insurer, so when the opportunity to join its leadership team arose he jumped at it. Martyn adds ‘’having grown up in the Pennines the prospect of living and working in sunny Eastbourne was the icing on the cake!’’
Back than Ansvar was the UK arm of a small Swedish insurance group and insurers were grappling with stringent new EU capital adequacy rules and this was a challenging time particularly for smaller specialist insurers. Martyn comments: ‘’Ansvar businesses in the UK and Australia joined the Ecclesiastical Group which was a great fit strategically and in terms of our shared ethical culture, although I missed the trips to Ansvar Group HO in Stockholm.’’
‘’As an accountant I have been fortunate to help lead a business that exists to give a significant proportion of its profits to charity through its owners - Allchurches Trust – this is a key motivation for me’’. As well as his Ansvar role, Martyn is a trustee on two of the Ecclesiastical Group’s pension funds and supports his local community as a charity trustee and treasurer of the village hall.
Life in Eastbourne with wife Diane and daughters Elena and Jemima is spent enjoying cycling and walking the Downs ‘’for me the novelty of the joy of seaside living has never waned’’.
