Tutor Trust

Tutor Trust is a proudly Northern charity with a mission to transform lives through tutoring. We are committed to helping create educational equity for young people in the North of England. Our aim is to narrow the attainment gaps that exist between young people in the North of England and those in the South, and young people from lower-income communities and their wealthier peers. Since 2011, we have partnered with over 700 schools and colleges, tutoring more than 36,000 pupils, primarily from lower-income backgrounds. In the 2022/23 academic year, we delivered 6,727 programmes across 156 schools, achieving record engagement despite financial challenges.

Our innovative model includes training local university undergraduates as tutors, providing subject expertise and relatable role models for pupils. This individualised approach is supported by evidence from two successful Randomised Control Trials, which is unique in the education sector. Through impactful partnerships with schools, local authorities and universities, we deliver tutoring which significantly enhances pupil outcomes. Our Year 11 pupils improved their GCSE English and maths outcomes by almost three-quarters of a grade last year. We prioritise high-quality tuition based on need rather than the ability to pay, making a tangible difference in students' educational journeys.
