Tom Baker
Save the Children
Tom Baker is Director of Campaigns & Organising at Save the Children. Over the past year Tom has shown exceptional leadership, shepherding the charity through a pandemic, and working tirelessly to protect children’s rights around the world.
Tom coordinated Protect a Generation, the charity’s global campaigning response to Covid-19. He established clear priorities, and gently challenged people to deliver the most impactful and imaginative tactics possible. His work has amplified children’s voices and influenced prominent decision-makers.
Tom has applied his characteristically calm leadership style to an extremely chaotic time.
He helped establish Crack the Crises, a coalition representing over 12 million people in the UK, set up to tackle the world’s biggest challenges of Covid, injustice, climate change and the nature crisis. He has brought together organisations, developed plans, built consensus and obtained buy in, and driven forward action.
Tom has been exemplary in prioritising the mental health of his colleagues during lockdown. From weekly reminders about self-care, to bespoke packages of support for furloughed colleagues, Tom has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to wellbeing.
This year is not a one-off: Tom has been rising through the organisation, and sector, for several years.
