Spadework

Spadework

Spadework, established in 1984, is dedicated to providing care, support, and meaningful opportunities for adults with learning and other disabilities, those living with dementia, and experiencing problems with their mental health. Operating on a five-acre site near West Malling , Spadework offers a wide range of activities and services, including horticulture, woodwork, cooking, hospitality, and craft workshops. Our garden centre, café, and farm shop are open to the public seven days a week, with every penny supporting our work with vulnerable adults.

In 2024, Spadework celebrated its 40th anniversary and achieved unprecedented financial growth, with income increasing from £740,000 in 2017 to £2,154,770. This year, Spadework was crowned Kent Charity of the Year and also won a Wilder Kent Award, a Great British Care Award, a Taste of Kent Award, and a Kent Care Award. Additionally, we were nominated for a National Diversity Award and a Kent Mental Wellbeing Award.

As a result of the expansion of our services, we have provided 97,842 hours of care provision in the past year alone. Through collaboration with partner charities and continuous innovation, Spadework enables people to be more independent feel less isolated and live healthier, happier and more fulfilling lives.
