Scottish Fire and Rescue Service x Anthony Nolan Partnership
Anthony Nolan
In 2008, Ally Boyle was diagnosed with a blood disorder. He was told that his best chance of survival was a stem cell transplant.
As Area Commander with Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, Ally recognised the synergy between the service and Anthony Nolan, with their shared aims of saving lives. He contacted Anthony Nolan, and soon after this fantastic, life-changing partnership was born.
SFRS deliver education sessions and donor recruitment events in schools across Scotland, educating tens of thousands of young people about stem cell donation.
SFRS have kicked off our 15th year of partnership in style by recruiting their 20,000th potential donor to the register, and celebrated their 100th person donating their stem cells to a patient in need. Since 1 June 2023, SFRS have recruited 1035 people to the stem cell register, delivered 19 events in schools across Scotland and enabled 11 young people to donate their stem cells to a stranger in need.
