Savera UK
Savera UK (www.saverauk.co.uk) is a leading charity tackling culturally-specific abuse in the UK, including ‘honour’-based abuse (HBA), forced marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM). It campaigns to eliminate ‘honour’-based abuse and harmful practices, while also providing a national helpline and life-saving services to those at risk, regardless of age, culture, sexuality or gender. It supports survivors and those at risk to leave abusive environments and find their 'savera' - meaning ‘new beginning’ in Hindi.
Savera UK’s other area of focus is tackling the causes of HBA and harmful practices. It challenges harmful attitudes, prejudice and practices that violate individual human rights and educates and empowers professionals, young people and the general public through research, consultancy and training services. The Savera UK Youth programme was established in 2017 to inspire the next generation and encourage them to speak out against harmful practices and educate their peers on the issues.
