#HIKETOTHEMOON

The Scout Association

On 17 April 2020, Scouts launched #HikeToTheMoon an ambitious fundraising campaign designed to raise £240,000 and help the movement collectively hike the 240,000 miles to the moon. The campaign was Scouting's response to the Covid-19 crisis, supporting those communities most affected.

All funds raised would go to BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief as part of the Big Night In. We also wanted to raise public awareness of Scouts willingness to support local communities. In the event, Scouts hiked to the moon and back - raising over £345,000 in donations, plus 18,000 in badges sales - all of which was match funded by the government t create a contribution over £725,000. It was the largest amount raised by Scouts in the 113 year history of the movement, helping Scouts fulfill their promise to help other people.

Scouts and their families responded in the most incredible way, dressing up as astronauts and hiking the miles in the houses, flats and gardens. Celebrities such as Scout Ambassador Tim Peake and Chief Scout, Bear Grylls also contributed their miles inspiring brilliant engagement from the whole Scout movement and beyond.
