She took the bold decision to change the name of the charity, and to implement a new website, following extensive research and engagement with the blood cancer community. She has halted years of decline in both fundraising and research spend and has implemented a new strategy to return the charity to growth.

Despite all this, Gemma has always been determined go about her work in the right way. The reward has been a positive working culture, in which individuals are empowered to take risks and innovate. Staff satisfaction has soared during Gemma's tenure, while turnover has dropped to historic lows.

Gemma's exceptional leadership, both within the charity and across the sector, has stabilised Blood Cancer UK, and put it back on the path to be able to play its role in finally beating blood cancer.
