Fight Hunger Create Change
Trussell Trust, FareShare and Asda
The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of more than 1,300 foodbank centres. FareShare redistributes good-to-eat surplus food through more than 11,000 charities and community groups across the UK. Our unique partnership with Asda was launched in 2018 with the ambition of creating long-term positive change for people affected by poverty in the UK. It has developed into the transformational Fight Hunger Create Change programme, worth £25 million in donations across three years.
Together, we have made huge strides in supporting people in crisis. The Trussell Trust has provided more than one million people with food and support services to tackle the root causes of poverty, whilst significant investment in FareShare’s infrastructure, including new warehouses, transportation and refrigeration, has meant FareShare has been able to redistribute surplus food to another 5,000 charities and deliver an additional 85 million meals.
The partnership has been agile and reactive. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Asda donated £5 million to the Trussell Trust and FareShare to support people in crisis, providing an additional 12 million meals to families who were impacted by Coronavirus, as well as giving 3,000 charities access to free food as they fought to tackle the impacts of Coronavirus in their communities.
