Enver Solomon
Refugee Council
Under Enver’s leadership, bringing his own personal family connection to the cause, Refugee Council has played a pivotal role in publicly challenging the most hostile environment for refugees to date. Alongside this, there was significant need for internal change: centring refugee experiences at our core, building credibility with those in power, and building our brand and profile to be attractive to donors. Enver has led: •5-year strategy to build solid organisational foundations, uplift donor income by 20%, deliver system/attitudinal change •radically increased public profile (this year Enver has featured in/written 245 national articles, reaching 49.5m people), alongside forming influential Government relationships •change in perception of Refugee Council: from silent giant to generous leader, collaborator, trusted policy expert, politically sensible strategist, quality service provider and onward funder (through grant-making after our Afghanistan/Ukraine emergency appeals) Enver is simultaneously modernising and professionalising the charity. An extraordinary leader who is changing the face of the refugee debate in UK society today, Enver won’t get lost fighting a culture war; he prioritises the power of story-telling and balances the narrative through fact, compassion and reason.
